Home Learning

At Outwood Primary Academy Bell Lane we believe that homework plays an important part in securing children’s learning and supports them in making at least good progress.

Homework also gives parents the opportunity to become more involved in their child’s education through discussion about tasks set, regularly listening to their child read and asking questions to check understanding.

In Upper Foundation (Reception), spellings are sent home each half term along with a topic related piece of work. This piece of work is to be completed during the holiday and returned at the beginning each half term.

In Key Stage One, one piece of homework relating to Literacy or Maths is set weekly.

In Key Stage Two, Maths homework is set weekly along with a second homework task that is usually literacy based. On occasion, homework is linked to other areas of the curriculum such as Science or Topic.

End of term holiday homework is also sent which is largely project-based and linked to the topic for the following term. Children who have not completed homework are supported to do so in academy hours. Parents are notified if this becomes a regular occurrence.

We also offer support and guidance to parents who would like to know more about how to best support their child in completing their homework.
